Hey Don...
what's with the 1/2 Shaven Face?
It's actually more about premonition than
superstition. In reality, the story of Don's 1/2 shaven head is not so
much about the "Billy Goat Curse", but about showing his confidence in
the Cub's this year. But the curse is still fun to joke about. With
last year's inspiring performance, and with all the talent currently on
the team, Don had a premonition that this was finally the year that his
dream would come true; the Chicago Cubs would win the World Series!
A few months ago, Don stumbled upon a Bic Razor advertisement in the
Chicago Tribune newspaper. The ad featured a well-groomed man,
only 1/2 his beard was shaven off. Don, with his confidence
that this
was finally the year for the Cubs to win it all, and as a personal
challenge to himself, committed himself to mimic the 1/2 bearded man,
and swore that he would stay that way until the Cubs won the World
Series.
As the story evolved, it became a fun storyline to somehow attribute
his new look as way to reverse the infamous "Billy Goat
Curse". He
thought it would be even more spectacular if he could find some other
equally confident Cubs fans to make the same commitment... sporting
this very unusual look until the Cubs won the title, and to collect all
of their photos on a website.
Although a lifelong Cubs fan himself, Don makes no claim to be the
ultimate fan. He knows that he is just a small representation of a very
large group.
With any luck, and if the planets align just right, Don will be a
freshly shaven man this November, and quite possibly the happiest man
on Earth.
